Disability History Month with the Disability Support Network

Running from 16 November-16 December, the Â鶹ֱ²¥ Students’ Union’s Disability Support Network (DSN) is using Disability History Month as an opportunity to highlight the work they do on campus and the community they have created.

In collaboration with LU Arts, DSN is looking for creative submissions to share people’s experiences of disability. This could be in the form of creative writing and poetry, artwork, music, spoke word, video, or any other format.

Your submission should relate to your experience as a disabled person, including (but not exclusive to) visual or auditory impairments, neurodiversity, long term mental health conditions and long term physical illnesses. Topics for your work could include diagnosis, friendship, education, stereotypes, barriers and discrimination.

Any student or member of staff from Â鶹ֱ²¥ University who self-identifies as having a disability can make a submission. This includes students and staff from Â鶹ֱ²¥ London.

Leo McFaul, Disability Officer at LSU added: “Through our DHM with DSN campaign, we aim to celebrate disabled students and staff at Â鶹ֱ²¥ by sharing their experiences, giving them a platform to be heard and opening up important discussions.”

Throughout Disability History Month these creative works will be shared on DSN’s and LU Arts' social media channels. Contributors will have the opportunity to perform their work at this event, if they wish to, alongside professional poet Reanna Valentine. Tickets for this event are free for students and £5 for staff and members of the public. .

You can send your creative submission by email to WDDisabilityOfficer@lsu.co.uk or .

You can choose whether you would like your name to be published with your submission or if you would like it to be anonymous. You can also choose whether your work is shared online and at the live event on 25 November or just one or the other.

If you have any questions then please email Leo at WDDisabilityOfficer@lsu.co.uk.
