Student satisfaction rises at Â鶹ֱ²¥

Student satisfaction at Â鶹ֱ²¥ University has increased again, according to the latest National Student Survey, published on 12 August.

Eighty-nine percent of Â鶹ֱ²¥’s students, compared with a national average of 86%, are satisfied overall with their course, placing the University in the top 15% of the UK’s 156 higher education institutions.

The annual survey asks final year undergraduate students to rate their satisfaction with various aspects of their degree programme – the teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, personal development and their overall satisfaction.

In each of these areas Â鶹ֱ²¥’s results are higher than the UK sector average.

Â鶹ֱ²¥ Students’ Union also achieved a 90% satisfaction rating.

Â鶹ֱ²¥ students rated the University particularly well for its learning resources, with 92% of them, compared with the UK average of just 85%, saying they were satisfied with the library resources, the IT services and the specialist facilities and equipment.

Eighty-eight percent of Â鶹ֱ²¥ students were also satisfied with the organisation and management of their course, significantly ahead of the sector average of 79%.

At subject level, Â鶹ֱ²¥ was ranked top in the country for Business Studies, based on the percentage of students saying they were satisfied overall with their course, with eight other subjects rated in the top ten in the UK.

“Â鶹ֱ²¥ consistently performs well in the National Student Survey and it is particularly pleasing this year to see increasing levels of student satisfaction across all areas of the survey,” says Professor Morag Bell, Pro Vice Chancellor for Teaching.

“Our performance at subject level is also very encouraging, and when we take the mean scores into consideration, even more of our subjects – 15 in total – are ranked in the top ten.

“We are committed to providing our students with the best teaching, support and facilities and the outcome of the student survey reflects our continued investment in all aspects of the student experience at Â鶹ֱ²¥.”

Almost 77% of Â鶹ֱ²¥’s final year undergraduates took part in the survey, compared with the national average response rate of 71%.
