Â鶹ֱ²¥ University to debate Catalonia’s battle for independence

An academic debate on Catalonia’s fight for independence is being hosted by Â鶹ֱ²¥ University on Tuesday October 17.

Catalonia's Independence: when nationalism and democracy clash’ will discuss the events leading up to and following October 1, when an overwhelming majority of Catalans voted in favour of independence.

Although declared illegal by the Constitutional Court of Spain, the vote still went ahead and made history in a long-term struggling relationship between Madrid and Barcelona.

, an academic in the , will be joined at the event via video link by Eunice Romero, a PhD student and visiting researcher at the Open University of Catalonia. Together they will present their insights into the Catalonian independence movement and the agenda of the Spanish Government.

This free event is being organised by and and is open to all. It will take place in the James France building, room D.0.02 from 2pm-3pm. You do not need to book in advance.
