Olympic medallist Langridge to offer expertise to Â鶹ֱ²¥ Badminton

Great Britain’s Olympic bronze medallist Chris Langridge has joined Â鶹ֱ²¥ Badminton as its new part-time coach.

Great Britain’s Olympic bronze medallist Chris Langridge has joined Â鶹ֱ²¥ Badminton as its new part-time coach.

Langridge enjoyed a glittering career in the sport, making the podium at the 2016 Olympic Games in the Men’s doubles with partner Marcus Ellis. He also won a mammoth five medals at the Commonwealth Games, including one gold and two bronzes at Gold Coast in 2018. 

Now, Chris arrives in Â鶹ֱ²¥ to inspire the next generation of medal winners as the University’s Badminton programme continues to go from strength-to-strength.

Speaking to Â鶹ֱ²¥ Sport, he said:

“It’s great to be able to return to Â鶹ֱ²¥ where my senior playing career started. Â鶹ֱ²¥ is world renowned for its sporting success and I am very excited to be part of the badminton performance programme and to work with the elite athletes to achieve their ambitions in badminton and academia.

“Throughout my playing career I have gained a vast amount of knowledge on what it takes to succeed in badminton, but I also have first-hand experience of combining high level sport whilst studying and believe I can use this to help guide athletes to achieve excellence in both fields.”

Dave Lindley, Â鶹ֱ²¥ University’s Badminton Head Coach, said:

“We are excited to have Chris working with Â鶹ֱ²¥ Performance Badminton as an Elite Doubles coach on a part-time consultancy basis alongside his role with the France national team.

“Having won Olympic, Commonwealth and European medals Chris brings with him a vast amount of experience and knowledge to the Â鶹ֱ²¥ Badminton programme and will help guide the development of doubles at the elite end of the performance pathway.

“He also brings his enthusiasm and passion for the sport to Â鶹ֱ²¥ and will focus on delivering coaching and mentoring to the elite athletes.”
